Salamander - approved
Just a quick note today folks to say that my synopsis for Salamander was approved last week and I'm now into starting the novel proper.
I will also be updating the published works section soon with both Salamander and Heroes of the Space Marines, including their approximate release dates in the UK.
I am actually really fired up to be finally getting going on the novel. Truthfully, it's a little behind schedule (what with the Fires of War short taking up so much of my time), but I'll be working hard to get it back on track.
I'll blog with regular updates as and when I get chapters finished.

Good to hear you can begin work in earnest.
Just a little query: When you write and submit a synopsis to be green-lighted, does it ever cause conflict between your author and editor roles?
I imagine that being a BL editor yourself allows you to know what sort of level you'll be pitching to, but do you ever find yourself getting carried away and your editor side has to rein the author side in?
Not really. I actually find it a great benefit to see things on both sides, as it were.
I know, like a lot of our established authors, what we are looking for and what works. Of course, anything I submit always has to go through Lindsey first, and I am extremely professional about the entire process and treat it all very seriously (as I want to be taken seriously as an author). Practice helps too, and the more synopses I see (good and bad) help me to get a good idea of where and how to pitch.
I do find the editor in me reining me in as author occasionally, but, again, I think this is healthy and useful. A good author should always aspire to be a good editor of his or her own work I think.
Good question! :-)
Excellent news Nick, always good to get the go ahead on a project your excited about :)
Roughly when would be likely to see the Novel if I might ask ?
You may. :-)
September 2009 is the release date for Salamander. A while, I know, but there's the short story in Heroes of the Space Marines in July that sets a few things up to help whet/assuage appetites...
Excellent! It's great news. I look forward to this with every day (well, week would be about right, but it's on my mind)!
Similar to the author-editor question: Have you ever had a rejected synopsis since being an editor?
(I had a funny vision of you submitting your own synopsis to yourself and then self-certifying it as "approved")
That said, I really do look forward to it. Would it be foolish to hope for an excerpt from any of your forthcoming work in BLP's Adevent Calendar?
Also, if I may be so bold, do you have anything planned/on-the-go beyond "Salamander"? If it's a 09/09 publication (08/09 preorder, I hope!) then you'll presumably be safely finished within the next half-dozen months, yes?
Still, I look forward to it all! In the meantime, I'm quite looking forward to "Tales of Heresy", I hope you approved some good ones!
Ha, ha - good question!
I've never had anything rejected whilst being an editor, but I do have some projects I want to do on the backburner that may or may not see the light of day. For instance, I'd love to do a Knights of Morr novel with my characters from two short stories that appeared in Tales of the Old World and Invasion! (there's actually a third tale, too, that was published in Inferno!). Who knows, maybe they'll see publication again in the form of an Empire Army novel.
As for the advent calendar, sadly there's nothing from Fires of War in there, but I can assure you there's lots of other good stuff.
As for future works, there are a few things in the pipe for me. A second Salamanders novel is very high on my agenda (though you'll have a bit of a wait for that one). I'll also be going back to my fantasy roots and writing an Empire Army novel with a halberdier regiment at its core. There are other books much further out, but I reckon that'll do for now...
As for Tales of Heresy... let's just say, I'm very proud of the story selection in there. if it proves popular, we'll do more too.
