Salamander - the cover art

Although this is already doing the rounds on the BL website, I thought I'd show off the cover art to my forthcoming book Salamander. Here it is without any of the page furniture, in all its unfettered glory.

Hats off to Mr Wayne England who illustrated this piece - wonderful stuff!

One word: Epic

Also, I had a few more thoughts on tid-bits of the Salamanders culture if you are interested?

Regarding the Firedrakes (the lizards, not the veterans) and how their bodies are used for all sorts of things once killed by an aspiring veteran. Let me know if you are interested Nick. :)

It's an absolutely gorgeous piece of art, I've always been a fan of Wayne's work.

I'm sure you're very proud to have it on your novel.

Many thanks for all the kind words about the cover. I am extremely happy with it - Wayne has done a great job. I think it sums up the power and ferocity of the Salamanders, combined with their fiery nature.

Dan - thanks for the offer about the Fire Drakes, but I reckon I should probably come up with this stuff myself. To be honest, I'm a little reluctant to respond to suggestions too much, as the book then starts to become something else beyond the author's vision that he doesn't have entire control of. I hope that's okay, and makes sense. It's great that you are thinking about these things, and who knows, I might cover some of what you've been pondering in this or later novels. I am really glad you're looking forward to the book and my sincere thanks for all your thoughts and encouragement - it's much appreciated.

Cheers Nick, of course I understand - it's your work, after all, and I wouldn't want to detract from it in any way.

I am just very much looking forward to it and in the same way as the guys from the Bolter and Chainsword (Pyriel and Bro Argos) I would love to contribute in any way other than as a reader, of course.

I meant more of a suggestion on my take on it rather than a "here, use this" kind of thing, as inspiration comes from all sources.

I cannot wait to get my hands on Heroes of the Space Marines, especially Fires of War - use your Editorial powers to crack the whip and get it out a little faster will you? Pretty please? :P

Sure, I understand Dan - it's wonderful that you are so enthusiastic about the project (no pressure on me then... ;-)).

As for cracking the whip; I wish I could Dan, but we're pretty pressed for time as it is! :-)

Looking forward to your feedback on the story in due course...
