Salamander - the final week...

I've reached the 105,000 word mark on Salamander (just over) and I'm still going. This is my last week on the book (hopefully) and I reckon I'm only about 5-10,000 words away from crossing the finishing line and ending this first milestone on what will be an epic journey for the sons of Vulkan.

There are some pretty serious revelations and reveals to wrap up in the last few thousand words, not to mention the odd absolute shock that I hope will have readers reeling. Several dangling threads will be left deliberately that I plan to eventually pick up in book two (assuming this one does well enough to justify a sequel).

Nearing the end, as I am, I really feel like I've invested heart and soul, plus no small amount of intellectual sweat on this novel. It has been such a hard journey, but a great one. It almost feels a little sad to be leaving the warriors of Third Company behind - they will be together again, but never in the same way.

I have lots of plans for the sequel, not least of which the ongoing character arcs for the main protagonists.

Heroes of the Space Marines is out soon, so that'll give fans a good taster of what the Salamanders are all about in this novel. Fingers crossed, the story will get a favourable reception.

Now, on to those last few thousand words...

This is great to hear, Nick. Keep up the hard work, I'm reassured it'll be a fine novel!

Honourkeeper and Tales of Heresy arrived last week, ToH being a fine anthology with my particular favourite being Graham's The Last Church (though Matt's After Desh'ea was fantastic too). No plans yet to contribute your author's pen to the Heresy, rather than your editor's?

I'm sixty pages into HK and quite enjoying it. Somewhat slow, so far, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Good luck with the remainder of Salamander and I hope to get a copy of Heroes of the Space Marines as soon as I can!

Ah, I'd liken Honourkeeper to a fine wine - it just needs a little time to breath and develop. There's a lot of story and set up in the first half. You'll meet the Serpent Host soon and from their the ante gets up. Just wait until the first clash in battle... from there, it gets very bloody indeed.

I'd love to know your thoughts on the book when you reach the end.

Glad to hear you're looking forward to Heroes of the Space Marines and Salamander (lots of action in those two, but plenty of story too).

Some of us are just waiting eagerly for it to hit the bookshelves Nick :)

Looking forward to Heroes of the Space Marines, I will have to make sure I get a good few copies and make them prizes on the Bolter & Chainsword!
